Marcelo Claure, President & CEO, Brightstar Corporation
R Marcelo Claure is the founder, chairman, CEO and president of Brightstar [2], the largest wireless distribution and supply chain solutions company in the world.
His successful strategy has been both to expand Brightstar’s geographic reach and better serve customers, while also creating the largest portfolio of wireless-centric supply chain services in the industry.
Prior to founding Brightstar, Marcelo held various executive positions at Unplugged Communications, served as president of Small World Communications, was the CEO and co-founder of USA Wireless, and also the President of Cellular Solutions. He holds a BSc degree in Economics and Finance and an Honorary Degree as Doctor of Commercial Science Honoris Causa.
Rod Millar, President, Brightstar Europe
A highly experienced mobile industry veteran, Rod was appointed President of Brightstar Europe in April 2007. Since that time he has overseen the successful establishment of the business in the UK and other European countries, building relationships with key partners and putting in place a top-quality management team.
Prior to joining Brightstar Europe, Rod was Managing Director of 20:20 Logistics, the largest mobile distributor in the UK, growing the business from £50 million to £600 million over a seven year period. During his tenure at 20:20, he created a number of new business units, serving operator contingency supply, major retail and independent dealer customers throughout the UK, and representing every major manufacturer in the market.
Steve Russell, Chief Operating Officer, Brightstar Europe
With an eight year history of excellence at Tech Data, Steve joined Brightstar Europe with Rod in April 2007. The two men have been working closely with the rest of Brightstar’s senior management team ever since to put in place business processes and structures that make full use of Tech Data’s vast logistical and financial resources.
Before moving to Brightstar Europe, Steve was Director of Operations for Central Supply Chain at Tech Data Europe and, prior to that, Regional Director for the UK and MEA operations. Steve completed an MBA in 1996.
Max Caballero, Business Development Director, Brightstar Europe
Max has worked for Brightstar Europe since mid-2007. He project-managed the launch of the joint venture and was responsible for liaising with Brightstar Corporation in importing its expertise into Europe.
Richly experienced, Max started out as a financial analyst for an Argentinean mobile distributor nine years ago. Since then, he has held various positions in the wireless industry and worked directly in Marcel’s office, supporting the delivery of several key projects from the Miami corporate headquarters.
Richard Baxendale, Managing Director, UK, Brightstar Europe
Richard has over 11 years experience in mobile distribution and joined Brightstar Europe in November 2007 to head the UK operation.
Before joining Brightstar Europe, Richard spent six years with 20:20 Logistics, initially as Sales Director, and then as Business Development Director. As well as all major new business, he was responsible for every major sales channel, including network operator contingency supply, MVNOs, multiple retail, and non-traditional retail.
Richard has also held senior roles at mobile handset and accessory distributor, European Telecom, including Key Account Sales Manager and Head of Business Development.
Nicci McKenzie, Head Of Marketing, UK, Brightstar Europe
Nicci joined Brightstar Europe in early 2008 after two years as head of TD Agency, the end user marketing division of Computer 2000 and brings great knowledge of Tech Data’s IT reseller channel.
In a marketing career that stretches back twelve years, she has held creative roles, been a successful senior account manager in full service agencies, and worked up from the role of Computer 2000 PC Systems Marketing Manager, after joining Tech Data in May 2004.
Nicci was central in running TD Agency and considers the success of its core strategy – trading the strength of the Tech Data reseller channel for IT firms’ entire distribution budgets – to be one of her best achievements. Her new mission is to take the message about IT to mobile dealers, and vice versa.
